The Studio Mix team recently watched David Attenborough’s witness statement and vision for the future in his latest film, “A Life on Planet Earth.” We reflected, chatted, reflected some more, then began to visualise his message.

By default, a designer’s brain is wired to process a problem and capture its solution in visual terms. Most ground-breaking scientific and technological advances are often best understood through imagery, graphics, and simple illustrations.

Take for example, Darwin’s sketches of the Tree of Life to understand the complexity of our biodiversity, or the rapidly evolving development of the coronavirus pandemic. When communicating key messages on a crucial subject to a global audience, these intricate details can be turned into compelling visuals that make an impact.

At Studio Mix, we loved this animation created by Playmobil to sensitively explain coronavirus to a younger audience. At a time when anxiety levels were no doubt rapidly creeping up among school-aged children, the warm tone and familiarity with which this animation was created would have helped a vulnerable audience process more easily the important need to stay at home and protect others. Animation is one of our favourite techniques to convey the critically important aspects of a complex or serious issue through carefully crafted scripting and creative storyboarding.

Our designers relish the opportunity to create graphics tailored to a story. If you have a complex project or an important message that needs simplifying to reach and educate a broad audience, we would love to help you break this down with our creative input.
